Rings of force represent the sound of the thunder resonating from the superheated air around the lightning.

Mountains peek through the clouds at a spectacular sun.

The wall is entirely made up of Boolean primitives in Bryce (plus a bitmap texture of course.)

The original concept was less gloomy, but more light would have conflicted with the mist. I like the mood it evokes.

I wanted to keep this one simple and elegant as the subject. The clouds resisted remaining simple, but the effect worked just as well.

A version of this was used on the cover of the January 2000 Computer Navigator magazine.
