A fractal flame provides the spark for this electrically charged image.
This one started out with a blue sky, no mountains, and no lake. It changed slowly, and ended up much better than what I thought I was making.
I wanted the background to be a long endless tube, but the wave pattern vanished too quickly in the distance, so I have to use a cone, but it achieved the effect I wanted perfectly.
I planned on having a small object sit on the newspaper I had been working on, and put the sphere there as a place holder. I loved the reflections and refractions so much, I had to use it as is.
I almost added some people to the ships, but it seemed more mysterious leaving open the question of who or what would fly these things.
Based on a free model from 3D Cafe. I can also render this on light backgrounds for paid licensing.
This one has a lot of hours invested. 48 of which were waiting for it to render. I shouldnt try for so much detail during such a busy time of year.
